Update on CE Requirements for 2022 License Renewal - Temporary Changes due to COVID-19

After several inquiries and meetings between the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (DFPR) and the IOA, guidance was issued to allow all CE requirements for the 2020-2022 licensing cycle to be completed online.

In a Notice released in November, DFPR intends that all 30 hours required for the March 31, 2022 renewal may be completed online either by live, interactive presentations or through pre-recorded webinars provided by Illinois licensed CE providers.

Due to this change, Illinois licensed optometrists will not be required to take 12 hours of TQ (tested) CE for the 2022 renewal.

CE Requirements for the 2020-2022 Renewal Period:

UPDATE for 2022 RENEWAL: IDPFR will be seeking emergency rules in November of 2021 to address the necessary changes for the 2022 renewal. Until that rule is in place, DFPR has released guidance to allow all 30 hours of CE to be done online through live, interactive, or pre-recorded courses sponsored by an Illinois licensed CE provider. The guidance published by IDFPR can be viewed here: IDFPR forms
