Opioid/Sexual Harassment Training Requirement

Background on new CE requirements:

The Illinois General Assembly passed a new law last year that requires EVERY profession to take 1-hour of sexual harassment CE. They also passed a law that requires every CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE LICENSE HOLDER to take 3 hours of CE on safe opioid prescribing in order to renew a controlled substance license. This training is required for all optometrists in order to renew your controlled substance license at each renewal period. These bills were introduced as a result of the national crisis dealing with sexual harassment and opioids. Both courses may be counted towards the current CE requirements. Please note, these bills were NOT introduced by the IOA. The IOA negotiated with the General Assembly and reduced the origional proposal of 10 hours of safe opioid prescribing training down to 3.

These CE requirements will be required at each renewal period.

Attention Recent Grads: Update on CE Requirements

The IOA has received clarification from IDFPR on CE requirements for first time renewals and the new CE requirements. If you hold a controlled substance license, you must comply with the 3 hour opioid requirement, even if this is your first renewal.

First time renewals do not have to complete the 1-hour course on sexual harassment.
