Categorizing people without realizing it is natural to us all. This course will help attendees recognize these biases and how they may be a barrier to quality care we provide to our patients. Attendees will also receive some tools to deal with these biases to provide the best experience for their patients.
"Safe Opioid Prescribing: Pain Management Identification of Abuse Drug Diversion Practices of Prescribing Opioid Choices " Greg Caldwell, OD & Tracy Offerdahl, PharmD
This course will emphasize opioid medications in terms of risk versus benefit, with attention to pain levels and the potential for addiction. The course will describe how to appropriately choose a pain medication based upon individual patient and drug factors. Case anecdotes will include management of ocular pain, with specific emphasis on oral/systemic medications and how to protect both patient and practitioner.
The course is available in three 1-hour sessions to fulfill the three (3) hour CE requirement for opioid prescribing training.
"Alzheimer's Disease & Other Dementias" - 1 hr. Stuart Richer, OD
This course will fulfill the requirement that optometrists who treat patients age 26 and older complete 1 hour of CE on treating patients with Alzheimer's and other dementias at each license renewal.
In this course, Austin Monroe defines what sexual harassment is and offers examples of conduct that constitute unlawful sexual harassment. He reviews federal and state law concerning sexual harassment and remedies available to those affected by sexual harassment. He also reviews the responsibilities of employers in the prevention, investigation, and corrective measures of sexual harassment.
Illinois optometrists must complete one hour of sexual harassment prevention training during each licensure renewal period.
