Meet with patients to assess their symptoms; inquire into the nature of their refractive state, illness or injury
Accurately identify and diagnose refractive & medical conditions
Thoroughly examine patients and attend to their chief complaint
Answer and advise on any other questions or concerns the patient might have
Assign appropriate treatment plan according to each patient's needs
Educate and inform patient of necessary treatment plan and any follow-up appointments
Perform clinical tests to better inform diagnosis
Perform in-office treatment if possible
Prescribe appropriate eyeglasses, contact lenses, medicines or therapy
Order outside diagnostic tests and lab work as needed (blood/urine test, tissue samples, imagery, etc.)
Analyze and share results of diagnostic testing with patient
Continually chart and maintain patient information on paper and in computer system
Conduct follow-ups with patients to monitor and track their condition and progress
Refer patient to a medical specialist when needed
Maintain confidentiality and always work with respect and integrity
Attend conferences and continue research in your field to stay abreast of medical innovations and breakthroughs

Optometrist: Full-time-Part-time-Northern Illinois Optical, in the heart of downtown Rockford, IL since 1949.
We have availability for an Optometrist to join our award-winning patient care team.
To qualify for this role, you must be state-licensed and possess in-depth knowledge of eye-related disorders, conditions, and treatment. The ideal candidate will be customer service oriented with excellent analytical and communication skills.
Optometrist Responsibilities:
Providing routine care such as vision testing and prescribing glasses and contact lenses
Perform visual field testing, refraction, and other diagnostic tests to identify the patient’s visual alertness, field of vision, and hand-eye coordination
Diagnose sight problems and ocular disease, such as nearsightedness, color blindness, and macular degeneration
Prescribe corrective lenses and medications
Maintain accurate medical files for all patients
Promote eye health by teaching patients about proper eye care techniques
Identify and assess eye defects and diseases such as diabetes and liver failure
Record all diagnosis and treatment plans including transfers and therapeutic prescriptions
Optometrist Requirements:
Doctor of optometry (O.D.) degree
Must possess a state-issued license for O.D. and optometry
A minimum of 2 years‘ experience as an Optometrist
Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills
In-depth knowledge of eye-related disorders and conditions
Customer service oriented with excellent analytical skills
