In this role, you will examine each patient’s eyes thoroughly, utilizing a series of tests to check their vision and detect eye diseases or other eye disorders. If the patient needs vision correction, you’ll determine their best prescription for glasses or contacts. As a doctor, you communicate with patients to ensure they understand all of the procedures performed during the exam.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Perform standard eye exams for patients

Check for evidence of disease, injury, or other problems impacting vision

Provide prescriptions for corrective lenses as needed

Listen to and address patient questions and concerns

Prescribe medications when needed

Utilize all necessary equipment properly, ensuring it is in good working order

Record all tests, prescriptions, and treatments in each patient’s chart

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

Doctor of Optometry (O.D.) required from an accredited institution

Current state optometry license in good standing

Minimum of two years experience as a practicing optometrist

Solid working knowledge of all ophthalmic equipment needed to conduct exams

Experience prescribing and fitting corrective lenses

History of excellent patient care

Ability to travel between three locations (and others on occasion, as needed)

Great communication and interpersonal skills

The University of Chicago's Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Science seeks Clinical Associates in Optometry at 100% effort for a renewable two-year term.

The appointees will provide patient care in the area of optometry. The appointees will join a vibrant optometric team, as well as a distinguished community of colleagues and learners at UChicago Medicine, the Biological Sciences Division, the Pritzker School of Medicine, and the University of Chicago and its affiliates. The position does not require teaching or scholarly activity. Compensation (including a generous package of fringe benefits) is dependent on qualifications. We especially welcome candidates who will have completed an optometric residency by the time of the appointment.

Prior to the start of employment, qualified applicants must have: 1) an optometric doctorate and 2) hold or be eligible for licensure in the State of Illinois.
