Responsibilities
• Provide outpatient care for patients with a wide range of eye disorders and conditions
• Conduct routine eye examinations, including visual field tests
• Determine each patient’s visual acuity, field of vision and hand-eye coordination
• Take detailed medical histories for all patients, including current and past prescription medications
• Evaluate eye-related symptoms, such as discharge, redness and inflammation
• Prescribe corrective lenses when required
• Refer patients to board-certified Ophthalmologists when required for more holistic eye care
• Educate patients on proper eye care
• Identify eye health safety factors that could impact vision, such as working around chemicals or in front of a computer
• Advise patients about proper eye hygiene and care

We are seeking a FT or PT associate to join our dedicated, experienced team. Our practice continues to grow and invest in the future. We recently relocated our Northbrook office after 40 years into a beautiful, new 3600 sq ft. facility and completed a full renovation of our Lake Forest office as well. Our new Northbrook office has 3 exam lanes and 2 pretest lanes equipped with brand new state of the art equipment which allows us to practice optometry to the highest level. We have used Compulink EHR since 2012 and utilize Nidek retinal cameras, Optovue IVue OCT, Zeiss Humphrey VF analyzer, Topcon slit-lamps with digital cameras, auto refractor/keratometer, Icare tonometers, and digital acuity charts. The opticians perform all the pre-tests so our optometrists can focus on performing thorough ocular health exams. We provide full scope optometry including detection and management of eye diseases (ARMD, glaucoma, cataracts, dry eyes), diabetic retinopathy and plaquenil screenings, myopia management, emergent care, contact lens fittings, and surgical co-management.
We offer a very competitive hourly rate ($65-$80 based on experience), production bonus opportunities, 100% health insurance coverage, life insurance, 3 weeks paid vacation, paid holidays including 3 day weekends (Memorial & Labor Day), and 401K/profit sharing after 1 full year of employment. We will also cover malpractice ins premiums, AOA dues, licensing renewal dues, and a stipend for continuing education.

This is not a standard OD job. There's no salary, no W-2, no employer. So if that's what you're looking for, this isn't it.
But if you've ever wanted to run your own practice without building one from scratch, read on.
What we're offering
Space inside an established, well-run optical on Chicago's Northshore. We've been here since 2009. We have patients, staff, a front desk, and a steady flow of people who need eye exams.
You'd have your own exam lane, fully equipped: chair, stand, slit lamp, phoropter, autorefractor/keratometer, and retinal camera. We handle scheduling, insurance verification, and collecting payments at the time of service.
That's where our involvement ends.
How it works
You operate independently inside our space. You set your own fees. You keep what you earn from exams.
We don't charge rent. No utilities. No front desk fee. We do minimal marketing on your behalf, at no cost to you.
What we don't do: bill your insurance, follow up on claims, or chase down declined cards. If a payment falls through, we hand it to you and you handle it from there. You're running your practice. That's your side of the ledger.
If you want a tech or a biller, you hire them.
The honest part
We make money selling glasses and contacts. That's how we keep the lights on, and it's how we can afford to offer this arrangement.
So this works when patients get a thorough, trusted exam and then trust our opticians to fit them. We're good at what we do on the dispensing side. We need an OD who's good at what they do on the clinical side.
There's no contract. If you don't want to be here, a contract isn't going to change that. Same goes for us. We'd rather be honest about that upfront than paper over it.
Who fits here
An OD who wants to own their clinical practice without the overhead of building one. Someone who's organized enough to manage their own billing, or smart enough to hire someone who is. Someone who understands that a busy optical is good for everyone in the building.
The right person sees this arrangement and immediately starts thinking about how to build something with it. They're asking how to grow their patient base, how to earn referrals, how to make the schedule full. They're not waiting to be handed a full book and a paycheck.
If your plan is to show up, do exams, and let someone else figure out the rest — this will frustrate you. If your plan is to actually build a practice, this is a real head start.
