When is the solar eclipse?
The total solar eclipse will happen in the spring of 2024 – April 08. It will peak in Illinois around 2:01pm.
According to the National Aeronautical and Space Administration (NASA), an eclipse is an awe-inspiring celestial event that drastically changes the appearance of the two biggest objects we see in our sky: our Sun and Moon.
The path of totality will extend across Mexico, the United States, and Canada - crossing directly over southern Illinois.
Carbondale, IL will be among the Illinois cities in the path of totality. Below is a timetable of the path of totality.

Maximum: 2:01pm CDT
Totality ends: 2:03pm CDT
